For about a decade I have been using Sierra Trading Post (STP) to get great deals on clothing and outdoor gear. I have bought coats, work clothes, hiking boots, dress shows, tents and more through their website. STP has partnerships with clothing and gear companies to get their overstocks and closeouts, which are all in perfect condition. I get high quality and brand name stuff at a deep discount and a lot of the items I’ve bought have been used for years and years. According to my last receipt, I have saved $3,574.21 over retail prices on all prior purchases by shopping with them!

The prices on Sierra Trading Post are already much lower than retail prices. However I’ve found a few ways to get additional discounts and I will share them with you below. I regularly save 70 -80% off retail using these tricks.

1) Subscribe to the DealFlyer email newsletter

STP has an email newsletter called the “DealFlyer” and great discounts are offered to subscribers. When you sign up you will get exclusive free and discounted shipping offers, extra discounts up to 50% off, and access to huge secret sales. You can sign up for the newsletter here: DealFlyer Signup. I just ordered a few gifts and a fleece jacket using a DealFlyer offer for an extra 30% off and $2.50 shipping with no minimum order.

2) Follow this blog for additional discounts

Ok, a shameless plug here. Because I am an affiliate of Sierra Trading Post, I have access to special sales that I can share with my readers. A recent one, for example: 40% off sitewide if you use a link and promo code from my site.  So if you sign up for email updates from The Frugal South (on the right column of this page), you will have additional chances to save big. I will also highlight particular items in upcoming posts so you will get deal ideas and updates as well.

3) Be savvy with the website’s search & sort options

One thing I love about the Sierra Trading Post website is how easy it is to find the items I want with the lowest prices. Using their search options on the left side of the page I can really narrow down my search results to exactly what I am looking for. As you can see in the screenshot below, you can search by very specific categories and then narrow by brand, size, or color. You can also sort the results by the lowest price first, which has helped me find the best bargains.
