One strategy I regularly use to travel to Walt Disney World for free or cheap is to take advantage of credit card sign-on bonuses.

Right now there is a fantastic offer for one of the best rewards cards for Disney travel. By opening just one credit card you can earn five free nights at the Disney Dolphin Resort, which would cost around $1500 if you paid out-of-pocket!

From now until April 5th, you can earn 35,000 Starpoints when you open a Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Card. The minimum spending is tiered, so you’ll earn 25,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months (we can do this just by paying our bills and buying groceries). You’ll earn another 10,000 points after spending an additional $2,000 in the first six months. Since you earn 1 point per dollar, you’ll earn 5,000 point by meeting the minimum spend, ending up with 40,000 points total.

Nights at the Dolphin are 10,000 SPG points. If you book four consecutive nights, you’ll get the fifth night free, so you can stay five nights with your 40,000 point bonus.

The location of the Dolphin is one of it’s main perks, since you you can walk or take a boat to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. You can take free Disney buses to the other parks, plus you’ll get access to Extra Magic Hours.

I have had the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express for years now and I can’t recommend it enough. There is no annual fee for the first year and after that a $95 fee.

I keep the card in my wallet year after year because I take advantage of Amex Offers that offset the annual fee. Last year I saved $110 using Amex Offers on this card alone, which more than offset the annual fee.

Be sure to apply for this card before April 5th, 2017 to get your 35,000 point sign-on bonus. You don’t have to, but I’d love it if you used my link, since I earn 5,000 points for each reader who signs up though my link. Happy traveling!
